Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate What is a Heat Pump Water Heater?: A 'heat pump' is a device that moves heat from one place to another; it works much like an air conditioner or a refrigerator. While a refrigerator moves heat from your fridge to your kitchen, a heat pump water heater moves heat from your home into the hot water tank. Is a Heat Pump Water Heater Right for Me?: While heat pump water heaters can certainly provide savings over standard electric water heaters, there are several other factors to consider before buying and installing: • • • •
Location - For the heat pump water heater to run efficiently, the space should generally stay above 50°F. Space - A heat pump removes heat from ambient air. Hence there must be a considerable volume of air available; most manufacturers recommend about 750 ft3. Heat pump water heaters often require larger clearances from walls so that air can circulate properly, and they are often taller and heavier than standard water heaters. Most closets - even closets with louvered doors -are not appropriate for heat pump water heaters.
Eligibility: This program offers rebates for residential customers who have a licensed plumber install a qualified heat pump water heater. Customers in Littleton Electric Light Department (LELD) service area are eligible for rebates subject to the availability of funds from LELD. LELD reserves the right to change any portion of this program or end this program at any time without notice. Qualifying Purchases: Please see Appendix I for a full list of qualifying heat pump water heaters. It is the intent of LELD to qualify heat pump water heaters that are listed on the Energy Star website, have an energy factor of 2.3 or greater, have a first hour rating of 60 gallons or higher, and come with a 10 year product warranty. Rebate amounts and payments: Rebates will be for $250 per installation. Rebate applications will be processed as they are received. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for the rebate to appear on your bill. Verification: A copy of original sales receipt indicating make, model, purchase date, purchase location, and price must accompany rebate application. Incomplete applications will be returned.
